Profile

Dr. Igor Gomes is a Mechanical Engineer from the Federal University of Pará (Brazil), where he also obtained an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and a Doctor of Engineering (Dr.Eng.) in Natural Resources Engineering.

His academic and research background focuses on materials characterization, manufacturing processes, and the development of sustainable polymer composites reinforced with plant-based fibers, with emphasis on technological solutions for the Brazilian Amazon region.

During his previous research period at the University of Calgary (2022–2023), he worked within the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, contributing to projects involving sustainable materials and renewable energy systems.

He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Calgary, working on mechanical and wind tunnel testing, aerodynamic performance evaluation, computational simulation, structural analysis, anisotropic natural materials, and the development of lightweight sandwich structures for wind and hydrokinetic turbine applications.

Dr. Gomes is particularly interested in integrating experimental testing with numerical modeling to support engineering design, performance prediction, and system optimization.
