OVERVIEW
Our focus is on optimizing traditional materials, designing new advanced materials, and studying their processing-structure-property relationships at multiple length scales to improve performance in extreme service conditions
RESEARCH AREAS
Advanced materials design
Developing micro/nanocrystalline multicomponent alloys including high-entropy alloys, steels, and aluminum alloys, with engineered grain boundaries, chemical segregation, and stable microstructures. The central theme also includes understanding how grain-boundary decoration and short-range ordering control strength, thermal stability, corrosion, irradiation tolerance, damage resistance, and catalytic performance.
Additive manufacturing
Using solid-state and fusion-based additive manufacturing, especially high-pressure cold spray and directed-energy deposition, to translate tailored powders and alloy concepts into coatings, bulk materials, graded structures, and functional components.
Performance (in extremes)
Establishing processing-microstructure-property relationships under coupled thermal, mechanical, corrosive, irradiative, and high-rate loading conditions relevant to hypersonic vehicles, spacecraft, defence systems, hydrogen infrastructure, and energy technologies.
