The QuLIT team at UCalgary and the QuIC team at the Raman Research Institute are both led by Professor Urbasi Sinha.
Professor Urbasi Sinha
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Urbasi Sinha is Professor and Canada Excellence Research Chair in Photonic Quantum Science and Technologies at the University of Calgary, and Senior Professor at the Raman Research Institute, where she leads the QuIC laboratory. Her research connects experimental quantum optics, quantum information and tests of the foundations of quantum mechanics. She leads complementary research programs at Calgary and RRI, connecting fundamental discovery with quantum technologies through scientific collaboration and the training of researchers.

Mahdi Shamsaei
PHD STUDENT
Mahdi works at the intersection of quantum optics, nanoelectronics and nanophotonics. His MSc research at Calgary, supervised by Professor Sinha, used machine learning for quantum state tomography of bipartite photonic states. He also holds a BSc in Physics and a master’s degree in Photonics-Electronics, with research on optical control of semiconductor qubits. He brings professional experience in industrial control systems and instrumentation to his experimental work.
Subhadip Dutta
PHD STUDENT
Subhadip develops quantum optics experiments that connect fundamental tests with photonic information processing. He completed his integrated BS-MS in Physics at IISER Tirupati and carried out his master’s thesis at RRI. His research examines certified randomness associated with violations of the Leggett–Garg inequality and extends these tests to higher dimensional systems. He also investigates weak coherent pulses and decoy-state methods for Hong–Ou–Mandel interference experiments.
Arya Das
PHD STUDENT
Arya’s interests span quantum communication, quantum computing and integrated photonics. He holds a Master of Science and Technology in Engineering Physics from NIT Warangal. At RRI, he developed an atmospheric turbulence generator testbed for free-space quantum optics experiments. He also brings industry experience in photonic circuit design from an Indian photonics startup.
Jessica Webber

Jessica supports the administration and coordination of Professor Sinha’s Calgary research program at QuLIT.
