The University of Calgary’s Kananaskis Centre is a leader in field-based research. We are located at the door to Kananaskis Country, and serve as an important research station for the Canadian Rockies and Foothills. Our mission is to provide and support high quality science through independent research and research clusters.
The Kananaskis Centre offers researchers two well-established field stations: Barrier Lake Station, located in the Kananaskis Valley and the R.B. Miller Station, located in the Sheep River Provincial Park.
“We’ve become known as a place to come and work, with easy access to glaciers, mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and small mammals. It’s not just a place to study the environment, as we are also being mindful of the human presence." (Dr. Steven Vamosi, PhD, scientific director, University of Calgary Kananaskis Centre)
